We talk about his career, how he became interested in physics and he explains Bernoulli's Principle and how it relates to sailboats and curveballs. We had questions from friends which Erik was more than happy to answer and discuss. We actually had some fun with this interview. If you'd like to hear more about physics in future episodes let us know. Email your questions for Erik and we'll try and get him back again to talk some more. Enjoy! Sorry about that. In the last post I implied that we may do a Halloween podcast, but we failed to realize that. Anyway, there is something to look forward to. In a previous episode Sean and I discussed the Handy Physics Answer Book written Erik Gundersen. Well, I managed to grab a bit of Erik's time and we had a nice interview which I will be uploading shortly. I promise! We discussed Erik's involvment in High School science and physics, revising and updating physics texts, his book, and had a few questions for him to respond to, like the physics behind a breaking curve ball, Bernoulli's Principle and more. Interesting stuff, and a great interview I think, and I do plan on having him back on again for some more science discussions. So stay tuned for that. Well, that's all for now. I just wanted to touch base and let you all know we're still here, and plan on more episodes of the Cosmic Pirate Radio Show. If you have ideas for future topics please email them to cosmic at myeyez.net (put the @ sign where it belongs and remove the spaces). More later...
Roger joins in again, this time to talk about ghosts and other weird stuff. A couple of spooky, true tales of ghostly events, how the mind can trick us into thinking we hear ghostly voices. A tale of moving spook lights, or ball lightning, glowing water, and more! And this is nothing. Wait until Halloween.... Mwahahahaha!
Drew's friend, fellow beer brewer and all around great guy, Roger Kahn, Joins the cast as Sean sits out for a couple of episodes. Sean will be back for more soon enough! Roger joins us from Florida, chatting over the internet as we discuss topics like an amazing case of hydrocephaly (the man with the "small brain"), drunk astronauts, reports of space station sabotage, bottled tap water, smart crows and Oscar the cat, a foretelling feline who snuggles up to the soon-to-be dearly departed at the Steere House Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Rhode Island. Listen with the Podcast Pickle player below, or subscribe through iTunes! All music for this episode composed and recorded by Drew Vics. Hey Folks, It's been a while since our last podcast. Happy New Year to you! So in this latest cast — really more like outtakes, quite candid — Sean tells us about his adventures in Brooklyn with some friends, including Helen, then he talks about some recent Geocaching adventures, and even interviews me about my latest CD project. We also mention Neil Peart, drummer and lyricist for the band Rush, while talking about my drum set and recording process. In late 2006 they were recording at a studio in the Catskills, in New York State. You can see a picture of his drum kit and microphone setup used during recording here: http://www.neilpeart.net/news/index.html.
Our plan is to start featuring specific topics within certain categories to keep future podcasts more organized and entertaining, as well as informative. We'll deal with categories like science and technology, hobbies, outdoors, and others yet unknown. So stay tuned for more! We recorded this one a little while back and I finally had some time to put it all together. Sean and I sat down at the bar in my basement, brought a microphone over and started chatting about this contraption he had made for his Geocaching hobby. Sean's wife Sue and my wife Krista wandered in and joined us for the remainder of the podcast. I actually think we should include our wives in more of our casts, it makes for a fun time. We ramble about the Verdict (a reggae/soca band), pringles, podcasts, geocaching and more. Sue decides to sit down at the studio drum kit and give drumming a whirl. We're back with another episode of the Cosmic Pirate Radio Show, this time LIVE from Sean's house nestled deep in the wilderness of northern New Jersey. We sat down with a beer and chatted about where we had gone for our summer vacations. Sean and his wife ventured through the Grand Canyon on a 10 mile hike to Havasu Falls. My wife and I traveled to St. Kitts, and I discovered some new beers on my second vacation to North Carolina. We also talk about the sport of geocaching, of which Sean and his wife are avid participants. They select some caches from Geocaching.com, grab their GPS device and head out on adventure after adventure to find treasures hidden by other geocache players. We talk about beer too — what, did you think we'd actually go a whole episode without mentioning beer? Check out some interesting brewskies at Cryptobrewology.com. Music for this episode: Baja Taxi - nice surfer ditty with a spanish twist by Brain Buckit - Brain-Buckit.com Summer Feeling - a little reggae vibe by Dreamweaver - Dreamweaver.at and featuring Unglued by Jupiter One. Dim the lights and let your imagination roam... this time I'm telling tales of Bigfoot in New Jersey. What? Bigfoot on the east coast? Well, if what people are reporting to the New Jersey Bigfoot Reporting Center is true, then yes, it appears that something strange is afoot in the Garden State. For the first episode of Exploring the Unexplained here on the Cosmic Pirate Radio Show, I share sightings of these elusive creatures which many claim to exist. I'm a skeptic myself, but the stories are fun to listen to, and what if there really is something out there after all? Join me as I take a closer look at some of the more interesting sightings in New Jersey, and stay tuned for more when Sean returns for another Podcast, as well as more from Exploring the Unexplained... June 28, my wife and I will be making our annual pilgrimage to the island of St. Kitts. This year we'll be there for the St. Kitts Music Festival. We were hoping to get a press pass (my wife runs a St. Kitts & Nevis Forum website) but we inquired too late and the deadline had passed for applications. While we won't be able to take photos (we'll try) or video I will definitely tell you all about the festival and any other highlights of our trip, and I'll try to record some info on location to include in the next podcast, but no guarantees. We'll be gone for two weeks, so as soon as we return I'll get in touch with Sean and start putting together another full episode of the Cosmic Pirate Radio Show. Stay tuned.
Just a little update-cast here. This is the Solo Spacewalk without Sean. He'll be back for the next one. I have some great ideas I'd like to discuss with him, and you, on the next podcast so stay tuned for that. Let's see, I discuss my own music projects for a few minutes, then talk about my New Jersey Bigfoot Reporting Center (Yeah, I said Bigfoot - check it out). I also close the show with a great tune by New Sense called "What if I get sick?" from their latest release Flowers Before Hours. It's an excellent song, check out their website or do a quick search on the iTunes music store, you can download this track or the whole album. Good stuff. Hey, if you're an indie musician I suggest you upload some of your tunes to the PodSafe Network (see the link over there on the right side of this page), and when you do let me know so we can give them a listen, we might choose one to feature on an upcoming podcast. This just in... After a week of wondering where Sean is, I finally received word that all is well and he will be ready to return to the world of podcasting shortly. Until then I've decided to man the capsule on my own and record a solo podcast to cover a few things that I've been wanting to talk about. What will that be? Hey, tune in and check it out... I'll be recording this cast tonight, and I'll keep it short and sweet, so you can expect it to hit your iPods before the end of the week. Over and out!
Hey Everybody! We've introduced our show and published our first episode, now available at iTunes. Sean and I talk about how we came up with the idea for our podcast and cover such topics as Sean's Caffeine Vapor Car Stall and our excursion to Pine Bush to investigate the UFO flap that occurred back in the 90's. It will feature zany antics, plenty of entertaining tidbits, and we will start featuring one song per episode from an independent artist. So if you're an indie artist and you've got your music listed on the PodSafe Network email us and tell us your band name and what song you want us to play, you'll know if and when we play it. And don't forget to drop us an email and let us know what floats your cosmic boat, we like new ideas!
